A night at the resort

Staying at Casino of the Rockies

Casino of the Rockies sits inside a resort with its own hotel, so a visit easily becomes a night. The planner below, from the Kootenay Valley desk, lays out a stay day by day, from check-in to breakfast.

Rooms

Rooms and views

St. Eugene has 125 hotel rooms and suites. Of these, 25 are in the historic Mission building. That building was once the St. Eugene Mission, a residential school for First Nations children of the region. The Ktunaxa Nation has since reclaimed it.

Rooms look out on the Hoodoos, the golf course and the Purcell or Rocky Mountains, with Fisher Peak among the views. Which view a room gets is worth asking about at booking.

Check-in at St. Eugene starts at 4 pm, with check-out by 11 am. Free WiFi comes with a hotel stay. Pet-friendly rooms exist too, and anyone travelling with an animal should ask for one when booking. A guest who turns up before 4 pm can fill the wait at the casino, where play starts at 11 am.

    Golf season

    The golf season

The resort's championship golf course was designed by Les Furber. It runs beside rivers, with the Rocky Mountains behind it. Play runs from April through October, and the KOA RV park keeps the same season. For golfers who travel with a camper, the resort also runs a KOA RV park.

Outside those months, the resort and casino stay open year-round. A trip in the off-season still brings a room, the heated pool and an evening on the casino floor. Tee times are not covered here; steugene.ca is the place to check before packing clubs.

    Pool and the rest

    The pool and the rest

The outdoor pool is heated and open year-round, so a swim works in winter as well as summer. The resort also has hot tubs, a sauna and a fitness centre. Cash is simple to find: ATMs stand in the hotel main lobby, the casino main lobby and the golf Pro Shop. Behind all of it, the resort employs approximately 250 people across the property.

    The evening

From the room to the floor

Casino of the Rockies stands on the same resort grounds as the hotel. Every day it opens at 11 am; the floor closes at 11 pm on Sundays to Thursdays and 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Holiday times are worth confirming on casinooftherockies.ca before the trip. Inside, Kiʔsuʔk k̓ikiⱡ, Ktunaxa for "good food", serves plates and drinks from a dining area set above the gaming floor. For a table there after 10 pm, Sunday to Thursday, a call to 250-417-2772 first is the safer plan.

Numa Lounge & Dining, in the Mission building, serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday from 5 pm to 9:30 pm. Breakfast there runs every day from 7 am to 11 am. Encore Rewards members get 10% to 40% off a hotel night, depending on tier.
